Johnny Cash - Johnny Cash (London, 1957)
Nearly a year ago in this space - June of 2016 to be precise - I posted about finding what I presumed to be Johnny Cash's debut album (aka With His Hot And Blue Guitar) from 1957 on the Canadian pressing - which was simply self titled and had a different cover than the U.S. Sun Records edition.
To recap, when I got the record home a closer examination revealed the vinyl to actually be his 1958 album, Sings The Songs That Made Him Famous. The label of this album, similar to this debut, was the burgundy London one in Canada, also simply says "Johnny Cash" for the title, and both include I Walk The Line which caught my eye and in my excitement I did not check closer that the sleeve and vinyl matched each other...not sure if the original owner mixed them up or perhaps some copies of Sings The Songs even came in the jacket of the first album.
Anyway, the upshot is that lightning struck twice recently and I again found a copy of the debut in a different thrift store and this time, I am happy to report, it contains the correct record which includes the aforementioned I Walk The Line, Rock Island Line, Cry Cry Cry, and the immortal Folsom Prison Blues. Also, it is in excellent condition, far better than one would expect a sixty year old country record to be in. So for the paltry price of $2.99, a piece of history I am very happy to add to my collection - now to find a proper matching sleeve for that '58 album! #vinyl #records #nowplaying #nowspinning #vinyljunkie #vinylcommunity #instavinyl #vinyligclub #vinylcollection #thriftstorefinds #thrift #cratedigger #country #johnnycash #sunrecords
