#Repost @natgeo ・・・ @stevewinterphoto @natgeo BIG CAT WEEK is on NG WILD - http://channel.nationalgeographic.com/wild/big-cat-week/ #bigcatweek I am excited to bring my NG LIVE presentation, “On the Trail of Big Cats” to @natgeo ’s Grosvenor Theater in Washington DC on April 13th! Please come to hear about my life and work with Jaguars, Snow Leopards, Cougars and Tigers!! 14 months old tiger cubs at their waterhole in Bandhavgargh National Park in India. This is a short film put together using camera trap images. We need to realize deep in our hearts that animals have emotions too. If we can treat them better - maybe we could find some empathy inside of us to treat each other better also. There are only 3400 tigers left in the wild! We need to fight for the right of tigers to live - peacefully and without being killed for the traditional medicine market, tiger bone wine, tiger skin furniture and other trade. Help stop the demand for endangered species used in this practice! “When the buying stops, the killing can too” #wildaid Our animal family is so much like us - they find mates, they have kids, they have to feed themselves and their families, they feed themselves and their families in the same way we as humans used to! If we can find a way to believe they think, feel and have emotions, maybe we can treat them better and find a way to ensure their future on this planet. They are keystone species in their ecosystems, though we as humans are not. @stevewinterphoto @natgeo BIG CAT WEEK starts today Monday Feb 20th! on NG WILD - http://channel.nationalgeographic.com/wild/big-cat-week/ #bigcatweek I am working on a @natgeo Jaguar story in the Pantanal of Brazil. Here are 2 cubs cooling off and relaxing in a tree. Jaguars are the 3rd largest of the big cats. Found from US / Mexico border to northern Argentina. Jaguars have rebounded in this area where 95% of the land is privately owned. In the past many ranchers would kill the cats when they ate their cattle. Today in this area tourism brings in much more money to the local economy than cattle ranching. So the jaguar population is increasing. But revenge killings of jaguars happen close to this area and all throughout the jaguars range. Also poaching for skins, bones and teeth is growing for the first time since the 1970’s to feed the demand for Asian Traditional Medicine and luxury items from endangered species. “Stop the demand and the killing can too.” @wildaid @bertiegregory My first story with big cats was the 1st @natgeo Jaguar story 20 years ago! It has changed my life working with the magical and magnificent cats of the world. Animals have emotions just like we have-kids hang out and play like these 2 cubs.. Forests provide us with up to 50% of the oxygen we breathe - oceans the rest. They give us 75% of the fresh water. If we can save the forest of the Amazon and other areas in Central and South America for the JAGUAR and Puma. The forests of Central Africa for the leopard, lion, elephants etc. And the forests of South Asia for the Tigers and Leopards. If you save the top predator in any ecosystem you save everything that lives with them. So if - We Save Big Cats we can help Save Ourselves. Please visit CauseAnUproar.org to find out other ways to become involved to save big cats! #follow me @stevewinterphoto to see more images from my work with @natgeo and Thanks!! @stevewinterphoto @natgeo @nglive #nglive @natgeochannel @natgeowild @thephotosociety @natgeocreative #fursforlife #BCI #bigcatsintiative #startwith1thing @projetooncafari @refugioecologicocaiman @pantheracats @pantanalsafaris #canonusa #redcine @africanparksnetwork

One of the world’s largest populations of #tigers exists not in the #wild —but in #captivity in the United States. With an estimated 5,000 tigers, the U.S. captive #tiger population exceeds the approximately 3,200 tigers in the wild. In October 2011, an exotic pet owner let loose his dangerous menagerie into the local community in Zanesville, Ohio. First responders were forced to shoot more than 10 captive tigers and other #animals . On the first anniversary of this tragedy in 2012, WWF was among several #conservation and #welfare organizations to submit a joint petition to the USDA asking for a ban on public contact with tiger #cubs . This will help ensure public safety, slow the breeding of captive tigers, make them easier to track and stop #wildlife crime by preventing captive tigers from leaking into the illegal wildlife trade. Continued lax management of the captive tiger population means that thousands of these big cats are still found in backyards, urban apartments, sideshows, truck stops and private breeding facilities. A six percent of the US captive tiger population resides in zoos and other facilities. The rest are found in other private hands—some regulated by the US Department of Agriculture, some under state regulation, and some under virtually no regulation at all. In many jurisdictions, people can legally keep a tiger on their property without reporting it to local officials or neighbors. In some states, it is easier to buy a tiger than to adopt a dog from a local animal shelter. #banexoticownership #tigerbreeders #saveourwildlife repost @thealphafemale_ via @thedodo #bigcat #bigcats #catsofig #catstagram #racingextinction #startwith1thing #wildforlife #wildandfree #unitedforwildlife #conservation #awareness #animalwelfare #biodiversity #Environment #endangered #nature #compassion #worthmorealive #WorthFightingFor

If you can PLEASE donate any amount to this #wonderful organization #MosulZoo : "A FOUR PAWS team accompanied by local volunteers are on site to provide the last two wild #animals , a #bear and a #lion , with food and medical care. Although alive, both animals look miserable and are suffering from many diseases caused by malnutrition and lack of veterinary care. Unfortunately the bear suffers from pneumonia. The cages were cleaned for the first time in three months. We are happy that we managed to provide the bear and the lion with the urgently needed help! Keep you updated! 🦊 Real fox or fake #fox ? If you guessed fake, you would be right! Robotic versions of #animals that are normally hunted are being used as decoys in order to curb poaching. These animals are put out in #nature and remote controlled by a #wildlife officer, who mimics their natural movements. If a hunter shoots one of these robo-foxes (or robo-deer, robo-coyotes, or robo-bears), then this is enough evidence to prosecute the poacher. Their hope is to catch people who are hunting out of season, in a non-hunting zone, or just straight up illegally. We hope that these robotic animals will help keep the populations of all sorts of woodland critters afloat! I love my reusable mesh bags for shopping but as soon as I get home I store: - salad leaves in a tightly sealed glass container - carrots and celery in a glass with a tiny bit of water - wrap lettuce in a tea towel to retain moisture These little storage tips allows produce to stay fresh longer, which saves money and prevents waste!
