MANAFORT COLLUSION CONFIRMED? In a report from the #AssociatedPress (AP) today, it appears that former #Trump campaign chair, #PaulManafort , worked for a Russian billionaire close to #Putin in order to further the latter's interests. This contradicts Trump and Manafort's statements saying the that he never worked for any Russian interests. Manafort signed a contract with Russian billionaire, Oleg Deripaska, in 2006 for $10 million, and continued to work with him until 2009. This is coming off the #FBI investigation pertaining to Russian interference with the 2016 election. This revelation will now be taken into consideration during the investigation, as #Manafort has lied greatly about his ties to Russia, just as many others close to #Trump have done.
@jackiespeier , a #Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee, commented on the matter saying that, "This is not a drip, drip, drip situation," continuing with, "this is the dam breaking with all the the water flushing out with all kinds of entanglements." Oleg Deripaska has been one of #Putin 's top guys for the past 10 years or so, buying assets abroad that favor his interests. Manafort was also key in setting up a secret lobbying group in Washington D.C., championing the Pro-Russia political party within the Ukraine until 2014. When the AP revealed this during the Trump Campaign, Trump asked Manafort to resign as his unpaid chairman.
The actions of Manafort violate the Foreign Agents Registration Act, forcing people who lobby on behalf of foreign governments to provide detailed reports about the business they are conducting. Manafort obviously has not been abiding by this law, and if indicted, could face up to 5 years in prison with a $250,000 fine. Though according to the AP, this is unlikely. During the 2016 campaign, Deripaska's representatives accused Manafort of fraud, and said they would get their money back from him. This all changed when #Trump received the #Republican nomination. Seems a little fishy doesn't it?
