Deadlift tip: keep the back straight!! - The biggest and most common mistake with deadlifts is the rounded back position on the right. If your deadlift looks anything remotely like this, please stop. I see new lifters and big dudes in this position and it just makes me cringe. - The rounded Back position especially under high load is a seriously compromised position and can cause some serious damage! The shear forces placed on the lumbar and thoracic spine can cause serious injuries leaving you in a horrid and immobile state. - Unless you are new to deadlifting or simply don't know how to perform the lift, it's likely this rounded position is due to lifting a weight heavier than the body can handle. So simply dropping the weight can help adopt a better position. - If it's not the weight, then anatomical factors could be playing a part in the initial portion of the lift, but if this is occurring halfway through, make sure to lock in the lats and stay braced throughout the core, should help! - You may see some highly experienced lifters on YouTube with a slight rounding in the spine, whilst not optimal these guys should have a greater understanding of their body and likely performing max lifts. I'm willing to bet they don't train day in day out that way and if they do, they'll pay the price in later life. - The spine doesn't need to be completely flat, natural curves throughout the spine will play a part, but the excessively rounded position needs addressing. - Swipe right to see the differences between the lifts. Side note: even in the controlled environment this lift hurt, it amazes me how anyone can think this is correct.

Happy #transformationtuesday ! I've been training this lovely client for a while now, and I'm so proud of how far she's come since we first started! Though progress sometimes feels like it's taking foreverrrr, she has never given up. Life has thrown some pretty tough things her way, yet she continues to push through. I know it seems super appealing to do fad diets, or to do/buy things that make you drop 50lbs quickly. But, in order to keep weight off in the LONG RUN, you really have to put the work in and shape your behaviors to build success. It is better to slowly keep weight off and keep it down, than yo-yo diet back and forth. There is no "quick fix" for a healthy lifestyle. You really have to put effort and work in day after day! Don't give up, no matter where you are in your journey. You WILL succeed if you keep pushing through, that I promise you!
